The classiest museum in the country got punked last night. Top names in the fashion and entertainment world gathered to celebrate the annual Costume Institute Benefit and attendees embraced this years theme from head to toe.
The theme, Punk: Chaos to Couture focused on the impact of the punk era on haute couture. Andrew Bolton, the curator for the event ensured the collection of gowns on display would set the president for a wild night.
The Met Gala is arguably the most fashionable night of the year. It is the Oscars for the fashion world, making it near impossible to widdle down my list of best dressed. Therefore, here are a few of my favorite looks of the evening (in no particular order).
Emmy Rossum was sexy, elegant, and edgy in Donna Karan Atelier. Her gown may have been understated, but her hair tells a whole different story.
Jennifer Lawrences entrance was more ladylike than punk. She looked incredibly pretty in a strapless black Dior gown. The actress added a bit of edge with a Jennifer Behr veil and Brian Atwood platform pumps.
Gwen Stefani whose signature look in the ’90s was punk, looked right at home last night. Stefani rocked a custom black and white Maison Martin Margiela gown.
Nina Dobrev showed some serious attitude in a daring Monique Lhuillier jumpsuit with a black leather harness tulle overskirt and Rupert Sanderson pumps. Wearing a skirt over pants is a controversial trend in fashion and I commend her for using this evening as an opportunity to try it out.
Sarah Jessica Parker is one to never disappoint on the Met’s big night. The actress wore a Philip Treacy headpiece, custom Louboutin boots, and a Giles Deacon printed gown. Carrie Bradshaw would be proud.
Nicole Richie made was one of my favorite looks of last night. She really made the statement and her passion for the fashion industry showed. Richie took a gamble with her silver hair, but scaled the look back by choosing a understated white Topshop column gown.
Blake Lively has been laying low the past few months, but her look of the evening made for a phenomenal come back. Lively did punk the diva way in an elaborate custom Gucci gown with black feather detail.
They newly pregnant Jaime King showed up in a Topshop suit. The Chantilly lace blouse adds a touch of femme prettiness, while the head piece gives the look some edge.
Anne Hathaway took a huge risk and went all out for fashions biggest night out. The actress not only wore a vintage Valentino dress, but took Mr. Valentino as her date. Hathaways smokey eye, newly blonde pompadour, and touch of side boob made her look one of the hottest of the night.
Katie Holmes may have played it safe, but the actress was stunning in a flowing white Calvin Klein gown. The elegant silhouette of her gown and rock and roll pompadour was perfection.
